CELEBRATING 'COCO' WITH DISNEY UK

Finally the weekend that we've been (not so?) patiently waiting for in the UK has arrived - and Coco has been released! We seem to have been waiting so long for this one - Mexico got it at the end of October, and pretty much everywhere else (bar some European countries) in November/December. Perhaps this is potentially due to Disney not wanting to go up against Paddington 2? Who knows. Anyway, preview showings took place last weekend (I managed to see the film then, read my spoiler free review here), and went on general release Friday just gone - and the reaction seems to be pretty much universal - that it's beautiful, heart-warming, funny, totally emotional & a complete tear jerker.

In the days leading up to the release, the lovely people at Disney HQ got in touch to see if I'd like to receive a selection of some of the merchandise currently available over on Disney Store online - of course I'm not going to turn that down! I picked up the package yesterday from my local sorting office, and although I have already shown everything they sent on my Instagram Stories and feed, I thought I'd show you some close up details of all the merchandise on a full post over here - so I hope you enjoy seeing some of the merchandise on offer, and maybe pick something up for yourself!

First up is a Pop! Vinyl from Funko, of Hector - and if you've seen the film, I'm sure he's probably your favourite character - he is definitely mine! I used to buy a lot of these figures, and do have quite the collection (although mostly deboxed, which now upsets me!), but I haven't bought one for quite some time. Of the three available in the Coco collection - Hector, Miguel and Ernesto, the one Disney sent me would definitely be the one I would choose to buy for myself! Hector was such a great character, and probably had the biggest arc in terms of development throughout the film. He provided a lot of comic relief, but had a heart-breaking back story (seriously, it was heavy - even for Pixar) and by the end of the film I was just totally in love with him!

I actually couldn't find this Pop on the Disney Store website (I'm sure he's available in stores!), but if you're looking to order online, you can do so from Amazon here.

Next up is the medium Pepita plush - which is quite something! If you've seen the film, you'll know that everyone in the Land of the Dead has a spirit animal (or an Alebrije) - and Pepita belongs to Mama Imelda - Miguel's great-great Grandmother (I think!). They are all incredibly patterned, and brightly coloured - and this plush captures the character's visual traits perfectly. It it beautifully coloured and patterned, and features a mixture of materials & textures - adding to how detailed it is (including extra special details on the claws & tail!). It's a shame that Disney no longer stamp the plushes, but it does feature the new little label that became the replacement. It's such a beautiful soft toy - and truly captures the essence of the film & character!

You can purchase the Pepita plush from the Disney Store here

The third item they sent, which is something I had been eyeing up to buy for myself is the faux-leather bound notebook. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I like to hoard notebooks - I have so many Disney ones, I can't think of a use for them all! This is one of the best I've seen Disney release - featuring coloured and gold stitching over the cover - as well as images of Miguel, Hector and Ernesto. The quality is spot on - with almost hardback front & back covers - it is quite solid, making it perfect to carry around with you, as I'm sure it wouldn't lose its shape in your bag.  The inside features a gorgeous and bright Dia de los Muertos motif, that again perfectly captures the essence of the Land of the Dead. The paper is lined (my preference when buying a notebook), and features a little coloured sugar skull in the bottom corner of each page. It is honestly one of the loveliest notebooks I own (and I own a lot!).

If you'd like to get yourself one (and I definitely think you should!) you can do so from the Disney Store here

The final item they sent is the reusable shopper - and one can never have too many of these! I seem to have amassed quite the collection of shoppers from the Disney Store - as have most Disney collectors I think. They're always so beautiful, and they bring a new one out for each film released - which does, in my eyes, make them kind of collectible. I won't go on too long about this item - it is pretty much a standard Disney Store shopper!

You can pick one up for yourself here
